We met under the Brooklyn Bridge, next to the picnic tables across from Time Out Market. We both brought a bottle of wine...both bottles were finished. Eunice is an over achiever and doesn't really like it when she only has one task...so while she was doing her masters and changing to a new job, she decided that it was an appropriate time to start dating. We quickly bonded over the fact that we were both from California and lovers of spontaneous adventures. Over the course of the next few months, we had taken day trips to Philadelphia, gotten stranded at a bus stop in Baltimore, and tried to break up with each other in Montreal.

Perry decided to propose in Montreal because he thought it would be a particularly cheeky thing to do since this is where we tried to (and failed) break up with each other. This was a particularly stressful day. Omicron was rampant. The lines to get COVID tests for travel went from no wait to a 3 hour wait. The 24 hour lab turn around times were now close to 4 days. Eunice and Perry were scheduled to drive to Montreal on Sunday. They had yet to get their results. They decided to drive to the border anyway. Perry got his results at noon and Eunice got her's at 4...they made it to the border at 6. After multiple failed attempts to corral Eunice to the Montreal City Center's Notre Dame Basilica(where Perry intended to propose), they stopped by a small park on the way to dinner. It was dimly lit and covered completely in fresh snow. As they made their way over to the center of the park, Perry drops to one knee (in what was probably 2-3 inches of snow) with the ring sitting atop a small box. Eunice was stunned. She was looking at the ring, struggling to find words. Perry, in the meantime, was fighting back what could have been permanent damage to his left knee. Eunice, in a moment of weakness, finally said yes. The day was rounded out with a LOT of foie gras. On the walk home, the two newly engaged couple strolled by where Perry proposed to relive the memory one more time. They looked on as a drunk girl stumbled out from a club...saunter over to where Perry braved frostbite on one knee, drop her pants... and pee on a tree.
