Like all great modern romances, ours began on a dating app. Alex had just moved to Tampa and didn’t know many people yet, so when Joe asked her out for tacos and margaritas, she said yes—despite him showing up 30 minutes late. (Don’t worry, he’s been trying to make up for it ever since.) What started as tacos turned into hours of talking, closing down the restaurant, then a bar, and still not wanting the night to end. The next day, we went to Top Golf. Two days later, a movie night. From that first week on, we never went more than a few days without seeing each other. Two weeks in, Joe met Alex’s parents. Seven months in, we moved in together to a house in St. Pete. A year and a half later, we became dog parents to our mini Aussiedoodle, Louie, and our little family started to take shape. We’ve since fallen in love with traveling together—from our first trip to the Keys (expertly planned by Alex, of course), to wandering through Costa Rica (including wading through an actual flood in Jacó Beach). Some of our favorite memories are from exploring new places, but one of the most meaningful came closer to home. About a month into dating, Alex lost her childhood dog while she was away. The next time she saw Joe, he gave her a children’s book called Dog Heaven and a seashell from his family trip—because it reminded him of her: beautiful, unique, and one of a kind. That’s when she knew. Fast forward to August of last year, during the final leg of our trip to Greece, with a short layover in Rome. Joe suddenly had to get a crossbody satchel (“to look more European,” he said). What Alex didn’t know was that it was the perfect place to hide a ring box. At sunrise, on top of the Spanish Steps with only one stranger nearby, Joe proposed—and Alex said yes, with Rome glowing in the background. These days, we love beach days, dinner with friends, dancing in the kitchen, and cozy nights at home with our pup. Our favorite kind of date night? Cooking dinner together while playing Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sam Cooke, and probably singing a little too loud. We truly feel like the luckiest people to have found each other—and even luckier to celebrate with all of you. We can’t wait to celebrate surrounded by the people we love most.
