We met in junior high at Redlands Adventist Academy. I later attended Loma Linda Academy while Luke remained at Redlands. We met again during my senior year when we both attended Bible Camp, which was at a religious retreat in our area. A tall, dark, handsome, curly-haired man turned around and took my breath away. I realized it was Luke. I knew he had a kind heart, so I was excited to get to know him better. We ended up in the same group and enjoyed talking together that weekend. He invited me to a banquet on the last day of camp; we have been together ever since. God was involved in our decision to go that weekend, and I'm so glad he was. He knew it was the perfect opportunity for us to meet again.
We took a trip to visit Luke's relatives in Muskoka, Canada. That Sunday, Luke and I, along with his parents, sister, and grandparents, took a boat ride to have lunch. It was a beautiful ride to the lakeside restaurant. They told me the restaurant required additional time to set up our table. So Luke suggested we take a walk along the water. We arrived at a gazebo that overlooked a gorgeous view of the lake. I was enjoying the view when Luke got down on one knee and proposed. I was surprised and overjoyed! Of course, I said YES to my wonderful man! We celebrated, ate together, and had an excellent rest of our trip.
