One Time, At Band Camp...

He played bass clarinet. She played alto saxophone. It was meant to be.

When we were 15 years old, way back in 2012, we met at band camp. At Sara's first parade at Silver Lake Days, she marched next to Joe. She remembers feeling bad that she couldn't stay in line to save her life, and poor Joe was dressing to her. We had French II together, and the way the desks in the classroom were oriented, Sara and Joe faced each other. We would make faces at each other across the room, but when Sara looked away and looked back, he'd still be staring at her. It weirded her out. We started growing closer over the 2012-13 school year. In April 2013, Sara's best friend Brenda cornered Joe in the hallway and asked him when he was going to ask her out. Joe claims that he never thought of asking her out until Brenda brought it up. Joe asked Sara to be his girlfriend after school on April 19, 2013 as Sara was leaving to go to Pizza Hut with her friends. Apparently, Joe's dad witnessed the whole interaction from his car. Ah, young love.

Thankful For Each Other

On Wednesday, November 27, 2019 (the day before Thanksgiving), Sara and Joe were at Sara's parents' house. Sara was in the kitchen, cooking cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie, when a car pulled up in front of the house. She thought it was strange for a car to park in front of her house. Then, Joe's dad stepped out of the car! Sara went outside to greet him, confused why he drove to her parent's house. Joe's dad pulled out a camera, and to Sara's right, Joe was on one knee. They took some pictures outside, though it was a cold and windy day. Sara thought Joe looked like a sea captain with his peacoat and billowing scarf.

For all the days along the way
