FAQs

Question

👶🍼 Can I bring my kids?

Answer

While we love your little ones, we have decided to keep our wedding events adults-only and appreciate your understanding.

Question

💃 ✨ What should I wear?

Answer

Our wedding will be elegant yet comfortable, perfect for a beautiful celebration in Portugal. While it’s not black-tie, we ask that you dress chic and polished to match the occasion. 💃 ✨ Recommended Attire: Flowy dresses, midi/maxi dresses, chic jumpsuits, or dressy separates. Tailored suits or blazers with dress pants are also great options. Ties are optional. 👞👠 Footwear Tip: Lisbon’s charming cobblestone streets can be tricky, so we recommend block heels, wedges, dressy flats. Maybe rethink stilettos. 🌿 Fabric & Comfort: The weather can be warm, so breathable fabrics like linen, silk, or lightweight wool are great choices. 🇵🇹☀️ Weather in Portugal (August): temperatures will likely be in the mid-80s°F (around 29°C) during the day, with cooler evenings. Question

🇵🇹 Do I need a passport to travel to Portugal?

Answer

Yes! A valid passport is required for all international travelers entering Portugal. Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates to avoid any issues at immigration. If you don’t have a passport or need to renew it, we recommend applying as soon as possible, as processing times can vary. For U.S. citizens, a visa is NOT required for short stays of up to 90 days. If you’re traveling from another country, check your country’s entry requirements for Portugal.

Question

✈️ What airport should I fly into?

Answer

You should fly into Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS), also known as Lisbon Portela Airport. It’s the main international airport serving Lisbon and is located about 4 miles (7 km) from the city center.

Question

🏨 Where are you staying? Can I book the same hotel?

Answer

We’ll be staying at Hotel Convent and would love for you to stay there too! 📍 Hotel Convent Website: conventsquarehotel.com We’ve arranged a 15% discount for our wedding guests. To book: 📧 Email: reservations@conventsquarehotel.com 🏷 Promo Code: Lainie & Nick Wedding

Question

🚖 How do I get to the ceremony? Uber + Taxi (no shuttle)

Answer

Both the ceremony and reception will be held at La Distillerie: 📍 La Distillerie Campo de Santa Clara 78, 1100-470 Lisboa, Portugal Since guests are staying in different locations, no shuttle service will be provided. We recommend using Uber, Bolt, or a taxi to get to and from the venue. How to Get a Ride: 🚗 Uber & Bolt: Download the Uber or Bolt app before your trip to easily book a ride. 🚖 Taxis: Ask your hotel concierge to arrange one for you. Lisbon has reliable rideshare and taxi options, but be sure to allow extra time for traffic. Traveling with friends? Share a ride to make it even easier! 🚕✨

Question

🚗 Should I rent a car?

Answer

For most guests, a rental car isn’t necessary. Lisbon has excellent public transportation, taxis, and rideshare services. Parking can be limited, especially in historic areas, so it’s often easier to use Uber, Bolt, or public transit. However, if you plan to explore beyond Lisbon (like Sintra or the Algarve), renting a car might be helpful.

Question

🚆 How do I get around Lisbon?

Answer

Lisbon is very walkable, but the city’s famous trams, metro, and buses make it easy to get around. Uber and Bolt are also widely available. If you plan to use public transit frequently, consider getting a Viva Viagem card for unlimited daily travel on metro, trams, and buses.

Question

📱 Will my phone work in Portugal? Can I make calls and send texts?

Answer

Portugal has great cell service, but international roaming charges can add up quickly! We recommend checking with your cellular provider before your trip to see if they offer a temporary international plan for calls, texts, and data. Many providers have affordable daily or monthly options to keep you connected while abroad.

Question

☀️ What will the weather be like?

Answer

Lisbon in late August is typically warm and sunny, with temperatures around 85°F (29°C) during the day and cooling off in the evening. Pack light, breathable clothing and sunglasses!

Question

💰 What’s the local currency? Do I need cash?

Answer

Portugal uses the Euro (€). Credit cards are widely accepted, but having some cash on hand is helpful for small shops, taxis, or tips. ATMs are easy to find throughout the city.

Question

🔌 Do I need a power adapter?

Answer

Yes! Portugal uses Type F plugs with 230V voltage. If your devices use a different plug type (like U.S. plugs), you’ll need a power adapter.

Question

🗣️ Do I need to speak Portuguese?

Answer

Not at all! English is widely spoken in Lisbon, especially in hotels, restaurants, and tourist areas. That said, learning a few basic Portuguese phrases is always appreciated! Obrigado(a) is "thank you"!
