Brianna and Jacob both say they have always known "of" each other. The first time they officially met in August of 2016, though, their story began. Jacob approached Brianna at a mutual friend's house and she was in shock to say the least. You see, Brianna always had a crush on Jacob and would admire his charisma, charm, and his ability to talk to and get along with anyone. Little did she know he had also had a crush on her all this time and was nervous as all get-out when he finally asked her out. Ever since, they have grown together. Even when they were hundreds of miles apart they found a way to run towards their own dreams while working towards a life together. They are unbelievably excited to continue a life full of love and laughter as husband and wife.
For Jacob, much of the proposal day may be a blur due to an influx of stress caused by it unexpectedly raining the entire day. Brianna was oblivious, though, just excited to spend a final weekend in Ames before moving. They had made plans to meet up with friends later in the evening, but decided to go to a wine bar before heading to campus for a walk. As they left the wine bar it started POURING rain. Luckily for Jacob in his prized bright white Jordans, Brianna, now giddy on two or three glasses of wine, didn't care and wanted to walk around campus anyway. Once on campus they started off walking around Lake LaVerne. About 100 yards into walking Brianna decided it would be too muddy and turned around heading for the Campanile. As they neared the Campanile, the rain started letting up and Jacob kept saying his leg itched. Right in front of the Campanile Jacob stopped once again to itch his ankle, and as Brianna turned around he pulled out the most beautiful ring he designed and said, "Brianna Lynn Gorham will you marry me?" There are many stories as to what Brianna responded but it went something like this, "WHAT? Are you for real? You want to marry me? YEAH!". So let the record show, Brianna never said "yes" to becoming Mrs. Powell, it was a very enthusiastic "yeah" to spending the rest of her life with her best friend. <3 Credit must be given to the talented and dedicated photographer, Mr. Trevor Lewis, for hiding out in the rain waiting for a long, long while to capture the proposal.
