The flight from NYC to GRU (Sao Paolo) is about 9 hours. Then, the driving time from the airport to the city we will be staying in (Poços de Caldas) is about 3-4 hours.... REST UP!
Brazil's weather is the opposite of ours. So, August is our summer, Brazil's winter. According to the national averages for Poços de Caldas, It ranges from 71 degrees to 41 degrees. That means It can either be a nice day, or a cold day. Please bring a jacket and long pants!
Please note that $1 (AMERICAN) equals to $3.22 (REAIS). That means, if you bring $100, It will convert to $322 in Brazil. That being said, It depends on what you plan to do during your time there and how long you will stay. I believe $400 American dollars is great, however, if you're wanting to explore more please adjust.
Poços de Caldas is not a touristy city. One time, Jeanette went to an ice-cream shop and casually spoke English to Kevin's cousin. The cashier was so excited and called her cousin in front of Jeanette to tell them that they met someone who speaks English. THAT BEING SAID, please bring some type of translator. Preferably one that does not require wifi. Perhaps a book or new age technology. * If you speak Spanish, that is a plus, since Portuguese is similar. *
It may be wise to implement an international plan on your cellular device. Kevin and Jeanette usually use their phone with the airplane mode feature turned on and connected to wifi. The only downside to this is that when they are out of wifi limits, the cellphones are rendered useless.... unless you're taking pictures! (Please take pictures!)
