How We Met (As told by Stephanie)

We were first friends. I first met Shon in high school. Although we had friends in common, we never hung out. When we would see each other in passing, we were always cordial. However, when we went to university, we would hang out with the same group of friends and we all would have lunch together. This became a routine whenever we were on campus. We gradually became good friends and Shon was there for me during some difficult times. Little did I know that Shon had a crush on me. He eventually expressed his feelings for me, and I must admit this was an awkward situation for me because I didn't know what to say. This was my buddy; I didn't want to ruin our friendship. After graduation, we drifted apart and rarely spoke to each other. Through broken hearts and relationships, God intervened. When I saw him at my work you can bet your apple bottoms, I approached him and since then we’ve bonded. After some time, he expressed his feelings for me again. This time I was elated and told him I felt the same. We dated and had an amazing time together. Having a best friend as my boyfriend was a bonus. Before we made it official, I would tease him that I’m not officially his girlfriend until he asks me. He would deny this of course and the fact that he was nervous to ask. But we’ve evolved from schoolies to best friends, to girlfriend/boyfriend, to now he's my fiancé and soon-to-be husband. Our love continues to grow and I’m never letting go.

How We Met (As told by Shon)

Consecutively, we went to the same schools for over 6 years so I kinda always knew who she was, but never said much of anything to her.  It wasn’t until we were both in UB (COB at the time) that we actually said more words than “hey”.   I can’t remember our first real conversation, but because we had the same friends I’m sure it had everything to do with food….McDonald’s to be exact.  So that was our thing, getting lunch with a bunch of friends and eventually, it was just getting lunch with her.  There are two things about those lunch dates I would never forget, one is the Filet-O-Fish lol because that was always her order and the other thing is that she had problems with me covering the bill so I had to distract her and do it while she wasn’t paying attention.

The Proposal (Stephanie’s Story)

Shon and those around him gave me a few hints so I sensed a proposal in the air but didn’t know the exact day. I was wearing my cute hair bonnet watching anime and Shon being Nassau glass was blocking my view. Right before the episode gave its preview of the upcoming episode, as I was trying my best to see the show, I saw Shon slowly get one knee and said “Stephanie, no middle name Oscar…” . Everything seem to happen in slow motion. After he gave a beautiful speech about us and his love for me, he asked me to be his wife. Unbeknownst to me he had the ring box on my bedside table! He catch me good :-)

The Proposal (Shon’s Story)

Steph is one of the hardest people to surprise because she doesn’t like when it feels like information is being withheld.  So, it’s May 30th, 2022, the night before her birthday and we’re chilling in her room watching Netflix movies.  Honestly, I’m not really interested in the movie, I was more focused on the engagement ring she didn’t notice on the nightstand.  I waited for an unexpected moment to position myself on the floor and made my speech of how much I wanted us to take this next step forward in our relationship.  When she realized where my speech was going, I reached over to the nightstand, took out the ring box, and proposed.

For all the days along the way
