A week before we met, I (Misty) went to a wedding with a few friends in Charleston. During the car ride two of the girls mentioned setting me up with a cute guy they knew from college. I casually said, "Sure, why not," as I thought it was just girl-talk. Little did I know, this set the wheels in motion for the next greatest adventure in my life. Fast forward to St. Patrick's Day, my roommate told me she was having some people over for a house party. Later that night, her friends started showing up and one just "happened" to be the handsome guy she knew from college, Dustin. We hit it off that night and the rest is history.
My younger sister Rachel was getting married in Minnesota, so we flew up to help with the bachelorette party and wedding. Months prior, Dustin and my sisters (Vanessa and Rachel), started scheming. He had asked Rachel if it would be okay if he proposed during her week, and she replied, "Yes, but I want to help you plan!" The morning after her bachelorette party, I was drinking coffee with my aunt Mary and Rachel. Mary mentioned there was fingernail polish in one of the bags and Rachel said she would paint my nails (I thought, why not). Then Rachel mentioned she wanted to take photos with the girls who came to her party, but that people needed to shower. I protested - we were at the lake, it didn't matter. (Man am I glad I showered). The rest of the girls started getting ready for the day, and one of them curled my hair. Vanessa asked, "Don't you want to put on makeup?" and I said, "Nah, we're at the lake." Vanessa and Rachel asked me to take photos of them by a tree outside. Then they asked my cousin Jelisa if she knew of any cool places to take photos and she mentioned a bridge. So, we hopped on the ATV and drove off. During the drive, I text Dustin and told him to come to the cabin to go fishing (no reply). Once we made it to the bridge I noticed someone standing on it. Since I didn't have my glasses, I poked my head out of the ATV door and yelled, "Hello?" And as I noticed the clothes and hat I yelled, "Dustin?" I walked down to where he was standing, asked if he was fishing (completely clueless) and he said no. So I asked, what he was doing, and he said, "I think you know" (I didn't). He grabbed the ring out of his pocket (I began to cry). He knelt down and asked, "Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?" I choked out, "Of course!"
