How we met

It was April 9th, 2017 when our paths first crossed. A mutual friend of ours, David, was hosting Sunday night karaoke that I had attended with my friend Paula. Upon arriving we noticed that several of our friends were taking pictures in one particular area and they were all doing the same pose. Then in walks Pedro. After greeting his friends, he walked straight over to that exact same spot and did the exact same pose for a picture. Out of curiosity, I decided to find out what was going on. I asked his friend Paulie whom I didn't know yet at the time (who is now my friend too). "Why is everyone taking a picture in the exact same spot with the exact same pose?" It turns out that our friend Richard wanted to re-enact the same pose that another friend of ours Johnny had taken there before. He wanted everyone that was willing to volunteer to re-enact the pose and use that picture to update their profile picture on social media. I thought it was a fun idea for our OHT friends to do. As Paula and I were talking to Paulie, Pedro came over back to his seat and joined the conversation. After some talking back and forth, Pedro proceeded to shake my hand and introduce himself to me by pronouncing his name as "Pay-Dro." When I shook his hand in return, I said "Hi" while repeating his name in my horrible Spanish accent introducing myself. He smiled at me and our story began from there.

Our first date...

It was an unplanned, unexpected, but beautiful evening. The agreement was simple, just come pick me up, and we would decide what to do at that moment. When he arrived he gave me a warm hug, complimented me, and asked what I wanted to do. I shared that I hadn't eaten yet, so he took the time to teach me about his Postmates app which I was very impressed with. This was one of the first set of 3rd party delivery services for our city. After some pondering I remembered there was a little spot on the corner of Broadway called Tacos & Tequila that had really good food and drinks. He opened my side of the car door for me and we were on our way. As we were driving I thought to myself, "he's really polite and has good manners." After dinner, we both decided to hit up the downtown area of San Antonio to see where the night would take us. We stopped at The Ticket which was a small sports bar in central downtown. It was perfect because there was a Spurs game showing. The door guy, Georgie, recognized Pedro and he invited us to stay a while and enjoy the game for a bit. After the game, Pedro wanted to take me to a unique spot called the Soho. It's a quaint gem in the city specializing in signature drinks with their bartenders serving up that prohibition era vibe not just with their drink creations, but even with their clothing. Tucked away is a converted bank vault turned wine cellar, and a hint of jazz music from the live band in the front. It was a really cool place. After a couple drinks we took a walk to get to know each other a little more and found ourselves on the Riverwalk. While enjoying the Riverwalk, we found a place called the Republic and they were hosting karaoke. We stopped in to listen to the singers for just a bit since they were closing in an hour. As the night came to a close, we strolled back down the Riverwalk. While heading back to the car, Pedro stopped to take out his phone and take our picture. I thought it was so sweet that he wanted to capture our first date.
