Micah and I are getting married on the island of Kauai in Hawaii on July 18, 2024 with our immediate family. On October 12, 2024, we will have the reception in Elk, WA, where we will have the opportunity to celebrate with our loved ones. We are excited to have you join us on this special day.
Micah and I both grew up in Nine Mile Falls, WA, where we attended middle and high school together. Although we weren’t in the same friend groups, we shared several classes and competed in similar events during our several years in track. Upon graduation, Micah left for Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA where he played football and ran track and field and I attended Eastern Washington University. When the pandemic began, Micah decided to transfer to EWU and moved to Cheney, WA to live near its campus. Around this same time, I also chose to move to Cheney as I was commuting daily from my parents house to attend classes. Within two months of living there, Micah reached out to my good friend Rachel and her boyfriend. They were also attending school at EWU and lived in Cheney. He let them know he was in town and if they wanted to get together, he was right down the road. Rachel texted me immediately after and shared that she thought it would be fun for the four of us to hangout. Sure enough, we all ended up going to a local Mexican restaurant several days later. That night after dinner, Micah and I stayed up talking until 2 o’clock in the morning and ended the night with him walking me home. These late nights would continue for the next few weeks, as we would hang out and talk for 10 plus hours talking about anything and everything. Some days it would be over dinner, a board game, and even sitting in the hallway of my apartment until 5 o’clock in the morning. After about 2 weeks of irregular sleep schedules and countless hours of time together already, we made it official.
For those of you who know Micah, this story may not come as a surprise. Those of you who don’t, this will give you an insight into our relationship. On December 23, 2023, Micah went to my parents’ house while I was at work to speak with my dad. Micah has never shown up without me by his side, so my parents had an idea of what this conversation would lead to. After nearly 2 hours of conversation about every topic you could imagine, Micah finally found the courage to ask my dad for my hand in marriage. Micah told my parents that he was hoping to propose within the next two weeks, however, he decided to do it Christmas night. On Christmas Day, Micah came over to enjoy dinner and play games with me and my family. Later in the evening, Micah and I went to the downstairs living room to play with the new VR headset my brother got earlier that day. Micah played a game or two for a few minutes until he shared that he needed to step outside for some fresh air due to feeling “sick.” He handed me the VR and headed outside. While I was playing a game, he decided in the moment that he wanted to propose then and went outside to grab the ring in his truck. He came back inside to show my parents and sister and was asking for suggestions on how to propose. After hearing several different ideas, he thought it would be funny to propose with a “fake” and “ugly” ring. He asked my sister if she had anything that fit this description and sure enough, she found something that would work. Micah came back to the downstairs living room where I was still playing a game. He came up to me and went down on one knee with the fake ring. Because this wasn’t his first time joking about this, I laughed it off and told him to get up. That’s when he pulled out a beautiful ring. To say I was shocked was an understatement, as I was wearing no make up and in my Christmas pajamas. I could tell Micah was nervous. So much so that he forgot to ask me if I wanted to marry him. After asking him numerous times if this was a joke, he says “So, will you?” Through all of our nerves, excitement, and laughter, I said yes! After 3 years of dating, we are engaged. We are so excited to see where God will take us in this next chapter of our lives!
