Back in the days of St. Peter yore, Payton kissed Destin on the playground. He promptly went home and retold the incident to his grandmother (who, nearly 10 years later, retold the story to us as we had forgotten). Their love kindled quietly in the background until the day of their 8th grade Valentines day field trip when a "friend" went and screamed to the world that Payton had a crush on Destin. Payton went to the bathroom and cried, while Destin made his plan. He asked her to be his girlfriend in the parking lot of school that afternoon. She said yes, and the rest is history.
Destin had planned to ask Payton to marry him by reenacting the the Valentines Day field trip event where her love was announced to the entire ice skating arena. But considering he still to this day does not know how to ice skate, that plan fell through. He then decided to book a weekend date night at the fanciest restaurant he could find in Metro-Detroit: Prime + Proper. Payton unfortunately was tipped off that the proposal would be coming soon as she had found a statement in the mail from the jewelry store. So after the proposal Payton asked, "how long had you been planning this for?" and Destin replied, "I'd been hiding the ring for the past 6 months in a place I knew you would never see it." Where might that be? On top of the refrigerator.
