Kaunaʻoa (Mauna Kea) Beach

Talk to the guard shack at Mauna Kea Resort. Only 30 parking passes are available.

Mau'umae Beach

Very secluded beach. Park at Spencer Beach Park and walk about a quarter mile to the beach.

Kua Bay

Pretty beach closer to Kona

Makalawena Beach

Not very busy, pretty beach closer to Kona. The road to get there is rough, do not drive in a low clearance car. Requires a ~10 ish minute walk from the parking lot to the beach.

ʻAnaehoʻomalu Beach

Rocky, but pretty beach for sunset. You can frequently see turtles here. Where Lava Lava Beach Club is located.

Easy to access black sand beach.

Papakōlea Beach

We've never attempted it, but a 5.5-mile roundtrip hike to green sand beach with no shade coverage.

Visit during the day or go up for sunset and stargazing at 9200 feet.
