Mehndi, also known as henna is a paste associated with positive spirits and good luck. The Mehndi ceremony is held as a way of wishing the bride good health and prosperity as she makes her journey on to marriage.

The groom, his family, and friemds dance their way to the wedding where they will be welcomed by the mother of the bride. She will apply tilak to the groom's forehead and try to catch his nose, representing that he has the power to overcome all the obstacles they may face as a couple.
Var Pooja The groom is honored by the bride's parents, who clean his feet and feed him sweets as a sign of welcome. The bridesmaids will also try to steal the groom's shoes which are then held for ransom! Kanya Aagman The bride is accompanied by her uncles and brothers as she enters the room. As she enters the mandap, they are separated by a cloth which signifies they come as separate individuals. Kanyadaan & Hasta Melap The bride's parents will place the bride's right hand in the groom's right hand thereby entrusting her happiness to him. The groom's scarf is then tied to the bride's veil signifying the union of their souls. Agni Pooja & Mangal Pheras The couple walk around the fire four times, symbolizing the core aspirations of married life: Dharama (Duty & Religion), Artha (Prosperity), Kama (Family), and Moksha (Salvation) Saptapadi The couple will take seven sacred steps and recite the following vows to one another: 1.) To keep a pure household, avoiding all things harmful to our health 2.) To develop mental, physical, and spiritual strength 3.) To acquire wealth by righteous means 4.) To acquire knowledge, happiness, and harmony by mutual love and trust 5.) To pray for virtuous, intelligent, and courageous children 6.) To exercise self-restraint for longevity 7.) To vow to always remain true companions and life-long partners Mangalsutra & Sindoor The groom puts the mangalsutra (necklace) on the bride and sindoor (vermillion) to symbolize the bride's lifelong protection by the groom and his promise to fulfill her every wish. Kansar Bhojan The couple feeds each other sweets, symbolizing that they will share everything they have in life. Akhand Saubhagyavati Married women whisper "Akhand Saubhagyavati" in the bride's ear, which means "good luck, prosperity, and long happy life." Aashivaad & Vidaai The priest declares the couple as "husband and wife." The happy couple seek blessings from God, the priest, their parents, and all of you!
