Rio has two major airports: Galeão International Airport (GIG) and Rio de Janeiro-Santos Dumont Airport (SDU).  GIG is the big international airport that is a ~45 minute Uber ride from Ipanema.  SDU is the domestic airport that is ~25 min Uber ride to Ipanema.  If you fly to SDU, you will have a layover, likely in São Paulo.
