Travel

There are a few options for traveling to the San Luis Obispo area, which I've summarized below. This list is not exhaustive by any means - these are just our recommendations. We'd recommend using Google Flights (www.google.com/flights) to find the best flights. As far as where to stay, our wedding venue is technically closest to Arroyo Grande, so that's one option of a place to stay. We'd also recommend staying in San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach, Grover Beach, Los Osos, Morro Bay, and Avila Beach. If you have a rental car, these places are very close to our venue and will allow you easy access to get where you need to go.

Flight

Fly into San Luis Obispo Airport

You can fly directly into San Luis Obispo (airport code = SBP). This is obviously the easiest option, but there may be reasons you want to fly into another airport and drive to SLO. If you fly into SLO, it is possible to avoid getting a rental car if you use Uber/Lyft. However, my recommendation is that you get a rental car to enjoy all that the Central Coast has to offer.

Flight

Fly into Santa Barbara

Aside from flying directly into San Luis Obispo, the closest airport would be Santa Barbara (airport code = SBA). Flying into Santa Barbara would keep you out of the LA traffic and would offer the prettiest drive to get to San Luis Obispo. Santa Barbara is a beautiful area, and it is 100 miles (or 1.5 hours) to San Luis Obispo. If you don't fly into San Luis Obispo directly, this would be our suggestion.

Flight

Fly into Bakersfield

The next closest large-ish airport is in Bakersfield (airport code = BFL). If you fly into Bakersfield, it's about 135 miles (or 2 hours and 15 minutes) to San Luis Obispo. To be honest,I don't see a huge advantage to this option unless you've always wondered what Dwight is singing about in Streets of Bakersfield. Or maybe you want to visit Buck Owen's Crystal Palace before heading over to San Luis Obispo. If so, this is the option for you!

Flight

Fly into Los Angeles

The final potential option would be flying into Los Angeles (airport code = LAX). LA is 190 miles (3 hours) from San Luis Obispo. The major downside of this option is that you'd have to drive in LA, which can be daunting for those unaccustomed to driving in a large metro area. Also...traffic. So I really wouldn't recommend this option, but I recognize the flights into LAX may be the cheapest and you may want to check out some SoCal while on your trip.

We were unable to secure a group block at this hotel for our guests. However, we have stayed at this hotel twice with very positive experiences, and it is very close to our venue.

House Or Rental

Airbnb

One option for lodging would be to rent an airbnb rather than getting a hotel room. There can be several advantages to doing this. If you're traveling with a group, this would definitely be a better option because you can often find large homes with multiple beds/sleeping arrangements to accommodate the group. Staying at an airbnb also allows you to cook your own meals if you're so inclined. While we typically like to eat local foods for lunch and dinner, we usually will buy some groceries to have easy breakfasts at the airbnb before we start our day. A couple of things to keep in mind when searching for an airbnb, you probably want to be really specific about the "filters" you choose for your search. In my opinion, the most important option is to choose "Entire Place" in the "Type of Place" section. Otherwise you may have to hang out with the homeowners. Also, when looking at properties, be mindful of the cleaning fees for each property.

Rental Car

Car Rental

Where you rent your car is obviously going to depend on where you fly into. I've always used Priceline.com for rental cars and have never had a negative experience with them. There are other options for renting a car, though. Just make sure when renting that you choose the correct airport to pick up the car.
