Like many modern romances, Meg and Paul met by swiping right in 2019. They both were traveling for work so they texted for 5 hours during their flights from NYC to San Francisco and Dublin. Throughout the week apart, they texted constantly; Meg even remembers jumping out of a shower because she thought she heard her phone ping with a text from the mysterious Paul. Paul remembers checking the time in Dublin for when it was morning in San Francisco and hoping Meg would respond to their last text thread. When they both returned to the city, they planned on dinner, but one of Paul’s best friends (his college roommate) decided to propose to his now wife, so dinner turned into a 15 minute coffee. Meg was terrified, Paul claims to have been cool as a cucumber. Amazingly, the conversation was as easy in person as it was online, and they decided to go on a proper date the following week. In typical Paul fashion, his first date was a Michelin star restaurant in SoHo. Their first date quickly led to a second date, then a third, then Paul decided that Meg may be a bit too intense, so their short-lived romance ended. Meg was heartbroken (she was smitten with Paul from day one), but eventually reached out to Paul to let him know that there were no hard feelings, and they quickly went back to their daily texts. Then the world shut down. Paul and Meg texted each other daily throughout the first year of the lockdown, and eventually Meg asked if they were going to date again, and Paul declared that they were ‘just pen pals’. After learning that she was still simply a ‘pal’ to Paul, Meg slowed her texts, and this made Paul realize that he missed Meg. Paul texted even more frequently, and finally, Paul wore Meg down and they met up in DUMBO, almost a year after their first date. That first date lasted 4 hours and both of them couldn’t believe how easy it was to be together. Meg was still cautious about being ‘a friend’ to Paul, but decided that even if he was just a friend, she wanted him in her life. One date, led to another, and in December 2020; Paul asked Meg to be his girlfriend. Within two months Meg and Moses moved in with Paul and Luna. In July, Meg flew home to PEI to visit family and Paul missed her so much that he realized he wanted to marry her. Meg had no clue, but had no doubt that she wanted Paul to be her husband. Later in the year, Paul and Meg decided to celebrate Christmas, and, more importantly, Paul’s birthday, in the North Pole. They had 10 days planned between Germany, Norway, and Finland. On Christmas Eve, they flew from Helsinki to Lapland and Meg had food poisoning from the previous night’s Armenian meal. Meg eventually rallied, but was frustrated with Paul, since she was certain that he was never going to want to get married. Little did Meg know, Paul had spent the previous 3 months designing her ring and had it in his pocket throughout the trip; waiting for that perfect moment. The perfect moment came on Christmas morning. They were planning on going dog-sledding, but were told that the tour was delayed so they went for a walk in the nearby woods. It was dark, and the snow was untouched. No one was around, and the only light was from the moon. They both commented that this was the most beautiful scene. Paul handed Meg his phone and told her to watch the video all the way through. Meg was confused and slightly blinded by the bright light of the phone that she didn’t see Paul getting on one knee. The video was of Paul leaving the jeweler after picking up the ring, and telling ‘Future Meg’ how excited he was to be spending his entire life with her. Meg was crying when she looked up to see Paul on a knee in the snow; he asked her to marry him and she told him a thousand times yes. The two feel like the luckiest and they sometimes wake each other up at 4am because sometimes they want to spend more awake time with their best friend. They can’t wait to celebrate with you in Scotland later this year.
