Thank God for The Chosen! Our first date was axe throwing in Knoxville. Paul thought Kayla was so pretty walking down the ramp for the first meeting. After Paul’s excellent axe throwing and Kayla’s wonderful conversations, Paul wanted to show Kayla the views from the rooftop lounge at the Hyatt Hotel on Gay Street. While looking out at the beautiful Smokey Mountains, Paul began to discuss the relatively new series about the life of Christ called “The Chosen.” Kayla was impressed at the boldness of her date to not only mention religion, but encourage and recommend this show about Jesus Christ. Fortunately for Paul, discussing Christianity paid off because Kayla went home, watched part of The Chosen, and loved it! Paul credits The Chosen for a second date. God blessed our relationship, and we will strive to keep God as the foundation.
After months of looking at rings, talking to friends and family, and strategic planning, all behind Kayla’s back, the day finally came. While Kayla was unaware of Paul meeting her best friend to look at rings, and Kayla was unaware of Paul meeting her parents to ask for their blessing, Kayla somewhat suspected a proposal at Fall Creek Falls. Our fourth date was to Fall Creek Falls, and we both agree it was the best. Also, Kayla’s family camped at Fall Creek Falls in the summers during her childhood. Paul’s secretive schemes started to unravel though. For some reason, Paul insisted Kayla dress for a “concert.” Also, Paul was in a really good mood. Eager to get there, Paul drove fast on the interstate. Paul even passed up major attractions at Fall Creek Falls. Nevertheless, we walked down the trail to Buzzards Roost overlooking the rolling hills in the park. All of a sudden, Kayla’s best friend Katie, who lives in Atlanta, walked down the trail behind us. Paul used Kayla’s moment of shock and confusion to get in position. Finally, Paul got Kayla’s attention, got down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and asked… “Kaylawillyoumarryme?” Kayla says the question was so fast it sounded like one word! She said yes! We hugged and celebrated with Katie, her husband David who also took pictures, and their dog Hank. The day’s events were not over though. After taking pictures and hiking the actual falls, we said our “good-byes” to Katie and David to drive to Kayla’s parent’s house in Maryville. Thankfully Taylor Swift and the shiny new ring kept Kayla occupied. Kayla thought her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, and some other family might have a small celebration dinner. However, when we saw all of the cars at her church, Kayla knew something was going on. We walked into the fellowship hall, and we celebrated our engagement party with both of our families and friends. We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you at the White Barn at Cruze Farm!
