Kate made the most of the Austin nightlife when she first arrived in Texas! She'd often go out during the week. Every Thursday, Paul would get suited and booted - including a bow tie - to play a weekly gig at The Blackheart on Rainey St. One Thursday in late March of 2014, she ended up at the Blackheart. After the performance, which Kate missed, she was on the back patio with some friends. Kate's friend (who was having a rough night) was crying near the ladies toilets and Paul, being the chivalrous man that he is, stopped to ask if she was alright. Kate pulled him aside and explained the situation. Paul immediately took a shine to Kate and started making conversation. Kate was entertained but wasn't sold on a date by the end of the night. Paul gave Kate's friend his jacket, and offered to give them both a ride home. Paul strategically left his jacket with Kate's friend, as he would have an excuse to see Kate again to get the jacket back. A number of dates ensued and, with help of Gin and Tonics and a Tom Jones intervention, the rest is history!
Paul proposed to Kate last night! Kate, Marie and Simon made a wonderful Welsh Christmas Dinner. While they were fixing the turkey, stuffing, chestnuts and dessert (flambé), Marie, Kate and I played Scrabble. Paul and Simon popped out to get some snacks, which is when Paul asked for Simon's blessing - he was in on the secret! Tim, Dan and Mark bought me ‘Alexa.’ Paul asked Alexa to play different music and we all danced in the living room. Then Paul suggested we play Scrabble. Thinking nothing of the suggestion, or how long it was taking for him to bring the game to the table, we talked with various family members in Wales on FaceTime. He brought the game over and when Kate opened the game, Paul had spelled out the words, “Will you marry me?” We were clueless as they started laughing. Paul got up from the table, got down on one knee next to Kate and gave her the ring, they kissed and Kate said "Yes!" and the rest is the beginning of a life together!
