Not the Career We Were Looking For

How Love Blossomed in Career Counseling

When we first met, it was not love at first sight. At 6:15 p.m. every Tuesday evening starting in January of 2022, we were enrolled in career counseling class. For Paul, it started on her birthday when she shared her delicious cupcakes she brought for her birthday. She would also whirlwind through the community center to say a quick "hello!" then promptly leave to head on her way. For Corrinne, Pauls presence was often appreciated, he would accept Corrinne's invitation to church and to community group. The mutual confirmation was noticed when Paul got into a serious auto accident in Nashville. The busiest week of the semester was upon them. Paul had just gotten back from Nashville and decided to head to the book study they had been attending. Corrinne told Caitlin "I absolutely positively can not stay". It is adamant that she left right away when the study was over. Paul asked Corrinne to stay afterwords to talk and share about his crazy weekend and she immediately responded with, "I would love to!" Caitlin gave a quick look to which Corrinne responded with a smile and a nod. After Paul shared about his scary adventure, Corrinne knew if Paul was hurt she would have been very sad. Corrinne noticed strong feelings welling up inside of her and wanted to be there for Paul. After sweet Corrinne brought a lunch to help sustain him after his accident, Paul decided to ask Corrinne on their first date to Padrino's Mexican Restaurant on May 29th, 2022. While Paul was walking into the restaurant, he didn't see her sitting waiting for him to go by. She noticed he was nervous and practicing his deep breathing. She gave him a few moments to compose himself before she entered. After eating and enjoying each others company, Corrinne asked, "why now?!?" Paul responded, "I am in a good spot right now and I'm ready to date. I feel like a whole person!" Each person brings good and hard things to the relationship that the counselor in both of them wanted to seek understanding on whether or not to proceed with dating. A week later after a few more dates Paul knew he wanted to make things official. They made it official for the whole world to know! Over the next few months, there were things that happened where they each showed up for each other in meaningful ways. They had each others backs by supporting and caring for one another and their sicknesses. (Stupid COVID!) Fast forward to their engagement. Paul had planned to ask Corrinne to propose on New Year's Eve but Corrinne made it known she did NOT want to wait for a New Year's Eve proposal. He knew he needed to get the ball rolling sooner. So, on Black Friday, he went ring shopping online and found a wonderful ring shop that had the ring that he knew would be the one she needed. Paul also knew he needed to get school work done so he waited one week to get homework done and get the help from Corrinne's dear friend Karen. On Sunday December 4 after church, Corrinne wanted to use the giftcard she had to a local restaurant. Paul decided to leave the restaurant somewhat early and go back to Corrinne's to work on their studies. As soon as they got back to Corrinne's, Paul said, "Let's go for a walk! (before Corrinne could get changed into her comfy clothes) She went along with it and walked to Tower Grove Park. Karen was a great ninja and hid behind a tree while Paul read a poem and proposed. She snapped photos for them to have snapshots of that moment. Some of these photos she took are ones you see on this website. If you made it this long reading, we are so grateful for your love and support and can't wait to tie the knot!
