I had previously known a couple of Derek's church friends because of school. I had no idea who he was up until he sent me a DM (yes he actually slid into my DMs). He had asked me a drum-related question and I knew right away that he was trying to kick it with me. We talked here and there but I never felt the way that he did about me. We were good friends for a while before he decided to make a move on me. The rest is history.
Derek fell in love a lot faster than I did. Till this day he tells me that the moment he met me face to face was the moment he knew I'd be his wife. I can't say I felt the same way right away. I was very reserved and had my guard up. It wasn't until one night, Derek and I were on the phone and talked till 3 am. Anyone that knows me well, knows that I will not sacrifice sleep for anyone! I don't care how special you are. Derek and I were up all night just talking about life and what we envisioned the future would be like. The next morning, I woke up super early with this strange feeling. My first thought was "I think I love him". All it took was one phone call. One phone call and he swooned me. I then poured my heart out to him in a super long text message. I told him everything I felt. He called me 5 minutes later and said "you love me?" I said "yeah, I love you" and he said, "well, I love you too". This wasn't the first time he told me he loved me. He first told me he loved me at our favorite spot in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on a cold October night. He proposed to me 4 years later in that very same spot! It was magical.
Our first kiss was planned. It happened the week after I told Derek I loved him for the first time. November 21st, 2015. We agreed the day before that we both felt we were ready to take this next step with each other. I was Derek's first kiss...Kind of crazy to hear that you'll be someone's first kiss. We met on Hart St (yes it is actually called Hart st). I could tell Derek was nervous. We meet in the middle of the block and greet each other with hugs and smiles from ear to ear. I say "you ready?" he says, "yeah". We count down from 3...2...1.... It felt like a scene taken right out of a movie. I pull away and say "are you sure I'm your first kiss, because no one can kiss THAT good without having some practice first!". A day I'll never forget.
