FAQs

Question

What airport should I fly into?

Answer

We recommend flying into Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) – it offers more international flight options and is the main airport in Bangkok. Don Mueang Airport (DMK) is also a feasible option, especially for regional or low-cost carriers.

Question

How do I get from the airport to the hotel?

Answer

We recommend using the airport limousine service for a smoother and more reliable experience. It's available at both BKK and DMK. You can book it in advance or arrange it at the airport counter. While taxis and ride-hailing apps like Grab are available, traffic and communication can sometimes be unpredictable. From Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK): 1. Airport Limousine Service: ~30–60 mins / $30–40 2. Airport Rail Link (to Phayathai Station): ~35 mins / $1.50     Service hours: 5:30 AM – 12:00 AM 3. Grab/Bolt App: ~30–60 mins / $20–40 4. Taxi: ~30–60 mins / $20–40 (Not recommended) From Don Mueang International Airport (DMK): 1. Airport Limousine Service: ~20–40 mins / $20–30 2. Grab/Bolt App: ~20–40 mins / $10–30 2. Taxi: ~20–40 mins / $10–30 (Not recommended)

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

We’ve reserved a block of rooms at The Berkeley Hotel Pratunam, where most of the wedding events will take place. We’ve secured a special rate, but reservations must be made through us. If you’re interested in staying at this hotel, please reach out to Pat or Linda.

Question

Is English widely spoken?

Answer

Yes, especially at hotels, restaurants, and most tourist spots.

Question

Do I need a visa to travel to Thailand?

Answer

Most visitors, including U.S. passport holders, can enter Thailand visa-free for up to 30 days. Please confirm based on your nationality.

Question

What currency is used, and where should I exchange money?

Answer

Thailand uses the Thai Baht (THB). Exchange money after arriving in Thailand for better rates. Use airport counters (like SuperRich), local exchange shops, or banks. ATMs also work with U.S. card. Current rate: $1 = ~32.5 baht

Question

What’s the weather like in March?

Answer

March is hot and dry in Bangkok, with average highs in the mid-90s °F (35°C). It's a great time to visit—just be ready for heat and sunshine!

Question

How can I get cell phone or SIM service in Thailand?

Answer

Getting connected is easy and affordable: * Airport SIM kiosks: Upon arrival at BKK or DMK, you’ll find kiosks from major providers like AIS, DTAC, and TrueMove. You can buy a tourist SIM with data (e.g., 15 days for ~$10 USD). * E-SIM option: Some carriers offer eSIMs for Thailand that you can install before departure. Check if your phone is compatible. https://thailandesim.com/ * ID requirement: You’ll need your passport to register a SIM in Thailand.

Question

What kind of electrical plug and voltage does Thailand use?

Answer

Thailand uses Type A, B, and C plugs, and most outlets accept all three. U.S. devices will usually fit. However, Thailand’s voltage is 220V (vs. 110V in the U.S.), so make sure your devices are dual voltage. Most phone and laptop chargers are. If not, you’ll need a voltage converter.

Question

Will there be group tours or activities?

Answer

Yes! We're planning a few optional group activities around the wedding dates. Details will be posted on the Events or Travel page soon.

Question

What are food safety standards like in Thailand?

Answer

Thailand generally has high food safety standards, especially in hotels, restaurants, and mall food courts. That said, street food can vary. We recommend starting with meals at the hotel or restaurants in a mall to let your stomach acclimate. Once you're feeling comfortable, feel free to explore Bangkok’s amazing street food—just stick to vendors that are busy, clean, and prepare food fresh to order.

Question

Are there any safety or health tips I should know before traveling?

Answer

Yes! Here are a few quick tips to stay healthy and safe while traveling to Thailand: Vaccines: The CDC recommends staying up to date on routine vaccines (MMR, DTP, flu) and considering Hepatitis A and Typhoid for travel to Thailand. Consult your doctor 4–6 weeks before your trip. Travel Medicine: It's a good idea to pack a basic travel medical kit with anti-diarrheal meds, motion sickness tablets, and rehydration salts. Pharmacies are widely available in Bangkok as well. Mosquito protection: While Bangkok has a low malaria risk, using bug spray with DEET or picaridin, especially in the evenings, can help protect against mosquito-borne illnesses.

Question

What should I do in case of an emergency?

Answer

Medical: For urgent medical needs, Bangkok has excellent private hospitals that are very close to the wedding venue. Bumrungrad International Hospital and Bangkok Hospital are two top-rated facilities with English-speaking staff. Emergency numbers: Tourist Police: 1155 Medical Emergency: 1669 Fire: 199
