Guests from many countries can obtain a visa upon arrival at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman or other official entry points. You will need a valid passport (at least 6 months’ validity) and the visa fee (can be paid in local currency (JD) or card) which varies depending on the length of your stay. The Jordan Pass is a convenient prepaid package that includes your visa fee (for stays of 3 nights or more) and entry to over 40 tourist sites, including Petra and Jerash. Purchasing the pass before you travel can save time, money, and allow you to skip ticket lines at major attractions. You can obtain the Jordan Pass on www.jordanpass.jo
Jordan’s currency is the Jordanian Dinar (JD). Both cash and cards are widely used, though cash is more common in smaller shops and markets. Some places may accept U.S. dollars, typically $100 bills. Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted in Amman, but most places do not accept American Express (AMEX). Keep in mind that international transaction fees may apply.
In Amman, pharmacies are easy to find and often well stocked. Medical facilities in Amman are modern and offer quality care, and many healthcare professionals speak English. If you have specific prescriptions or medical needs, bring them with you just in case.
August in Jordan is hot and dry, with summer temperatures often high, especially during the day. Lightweight, breathable clothing, sunscreen, hats, and plenty of water are highly recommended for exploring outdoors.
Arabic is the official language in Jordan, but English is widely understood in Amman and at major tourist sites like Petra and the Dead Sea. Knowing a few basic phrases like “shukran” (thank you) or “marhaba” (hello)-is appreciated but not necessary.
