June 26, 2013 was a special day for many reasons. The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) - initially passed by Congress to define marriage as the union between one man and one woman, and allow states to refuse to recognize same-sex marriages granted under the laws of other states - was struck down. This was a huge win for the LGBTQ community, and a critical step toward achieving marriage equality. On this monumental day, the LGBTQ community came out to celebrate in cities all across the country, and Atlanta was no exception! At the time, Logan and Patrick had a lot of mutual friends in Atlanta, but had not yet crossed paths. Fortunately, after starting the celebration at a local gay bar in Midtown, both were invited by a friend to dinner. We were seated across the table from each other, giving us the opportunity to make introductions and chat over the course of the meal. As dinner came to a close, our conversation persisted while we headed out to continue the celebration. At this point in the story, Logan likes to say that immediately following their chance encounter, he pursued Patrick to no avail. Regardless, we were lucky enough to meet again about a month later at the beginning of August when we were both enjoying a Saturday night out on the town with friends. Following this second meeting, Patrick invited Logan on a date, and over margaritas, we quickly learned about the many commonalities in our lives. So began the start of this adventure, and the beginning of our relationship!
