How Patrick Proposed
"I knew I wanted to ask Katia to marry me for YEARS, and I knew when I asked I wanted it to be through something that we are both passionate about. Movies. I love making videos, she has seen every movie in existence and has shared with me her favorites through our entire relationship, so I knew I wanted to make a movie trailer from the beginning, and when I found out that the nearest Regal theater where we had our first date would allow me to play a video in a rented theater? I knew I HAD to do that. I started planning and talking with the theater months in advance, and it became harder and harder to keep it a secret from her. She told me before that she would love friends and family involved, so every week I would have to schedule a secret filming meeting with different loved ones that I wanted in the video. "Oh I'm going to film a video with Brady and Cameron.", "Oh I gotta stop at my parents to help in the yard", it was hard to lie about it but it had to stay a surprise! In addition to the filming, I got a guy online to make an epic movie trailer version of the song "Rainbow Connection" by Kermit the Frog. It was a beautiful song that we both would sing all the time, and had a history of making her cry. So of course what better song for a moment that is bound to have plenty of happy tears? Once everything was settled with the theater and all the footage was shot, I was informed I had one week to provide them the trailer so they could have it a month in advance. Which wouldn't have been a problem if not for the fact we are almost always together, and I'll need HOURS to edit the video! By the end of the week, I had help from Karina and Alexis to buy me some time, and I got it done the DAY they wanted it. (Keep in mind I didn't know they needed it a MONTH in advance!) Once the video was handled and the day came, I had to coordinate with all of our close friends and family to not only be at the theater before us, but to hide in the back of the theater QUIET so that we could walk in and I could keep the surprise going until the video played. From the moment I woke up to get ready, to our dinner date, to the joke she made about "What if I proposed right now?", till we got into the theater, I was FREAKING OUT. But as soon as I got us in the seats and could tell she had no idea, I breathed a sigh of relief and all of the nervousness turned to excitement. Asking Katia to marry me has been a plan for YEARS. I've never had a doubt in my mind that she was the woman I wanted to marry. When I sat down and realized my plan worked, all I could think about was finally being able to ask her. I've had proposal plans in the past, even acted upon a few, but now it was happening and I didn't plan anything I would say! I spent so much time worrying about the planning process I didn't think about what I would say when I'm down on one knee. But that's the easy part. I got down on one knee, and in my blubbery voice I just said what I was feeling. I love her with all of my heart and I cannot wait to marry her. She's my best friend, the one I can be most myself with, and makes me not only a happier person just being around her, but a better person overall. I'm making Katia my wife and I'm so excited for our wedding!" -Patrick
