In 2015, Jenn started attending Woodside Detroit after she returned home from college excited to meet new people and find community. It just so HAPPENED that Patrick was (and is) the associate pastor at this church. Though they weren't friends at first, over a few coffees (because Jenn needed advice) they slowly developed a friendship. They would give each other relationship advice and laugh about Jenn's online dating attempts. In the summer of 2018, Jenn and Patrick realized that they had become quite close. Like top five friends close! Neither thought anything of it until ONE specific weekend. Patrick was turning 30 and Jenn happened to be close by his side the whole weekend. Both had the revelation, "Wait, we like each other"! The true hero in this story is the one and only Maria Varano (Bridesmaid to Jenn). Being close to both Jenn and Pat, she listened to both individuals share their confused and slightly fearful revelations and without spilling any secrets, encouraged Patrick to ask Jenn out. Obviously, Jenn was game. Patrick and Jenn secretly dated under the radar for a couple of months and then finally shared with their community that they were together! Trips to Flordia, Charleston, and New York. Jenn saying "I love you" then taking it back...(not her best look) then coming to her senses and reinstating the sentiment. All the while, Patrick patiently loving her, waiting for her, bringing mushroom tacos and oat cappuccinos. Fast forward two years and Jenn knew she was ready. Patrick proposed August 14th on the beach up north in Michigan. Any normal person would have 100% knew what was happening, but Jenn, being slightly aloof in nature, was completely surprised and overwhelmed and happy. That's the story!
