The Inn at Tern Lake has compiled a great website of nearby activities including hiking, fishing, river floating, wildlife tours and restaurants. https://innatternlake.com/activities.html The Trail Lake Lodge has also compiled a great list of nearby activities: https://traillakelodge.com/things-to-do/
Alyeska Ski Resort is located in the ski town, Girdwood, about 1 hr from Anchorage. It’s the best place to stop for a bathroom and gas break on your way south to the wedding venue. There is a tram that runs in the summer that can take you to the top of the mountain for awesome views of the Turnagain Arm. The Bake Shop restaurant at the base of the mountain has amazing breakfast/lunch, Girdwood brewing is a favorite of ours and The Double Musky and Jack Sprat are great local favorite dinner options. The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is right off the highway near Girdwood for wildlife viewing and you can gold mine at the old Crow Creek Mine (great fun when traveling with kids!).
Hope is a small town located about 10 miles off the Seward highway about 75 minutes from Anchorage on the way to the wedding venue. For the adventurous, there is excellent white water rafting in nearby 6-mile creek. https://www.novalaska.com/trip/six-mile-creek/
Cooper Landing is about 20 minutes from the wedding venue and is set along the famous Kenai River and Kenai Lake. Emma's grandparents spent their retirement in Cooper Landing in a cabin on Kenai Lake. Our number one recommended activity in this area is to book a float trip with one of the many guides in the area. There may be some trout running in the river in early June as well! Our favorite hike in the area is the Russian River Falls hike where you can see salmon jumping up a waterfall. Our favorite restaurants are Two Brothers Roadhouse and Cooper Landing Brewery.
Seward is about 40 mins past the venue and the end of the highway. It has excellent ocean fishing and wildlife cruises. And many great restaurants and art galleries. Stop by the boat harbor in the late afternoon to see all the fish caught from that day's fishing charters! Other things to see and do are Exit glacier, lost lake hike, Kenai Fjords National Park Glacier Cruises (all day trip on the water), and Seward Sea Life Center.
Homer is about 3 hours from the wedding venue and one of Alaska's coolest small towns. The focal point is the Homer Spit, with a large boat harbor, restaurants and shops. Lots of options for ocean fishing and sightseeing. This is a perfect option for people who have a few extra days to explore before or after the wedding.
