While we have many pizza places we love, really nothing compares to this whole experience. Maybe not the fastest service, but truly worth it
Grab a truly delicious slice and a craft beer, sit outside on a stoop or one of the small tables, listen to metal and people watch in the sun.
The best Thai food. If they have the whole fish with larb sauce as a special (they often do) get it. Everything is incredible. Be prepared for spice.
Our neighborhood house brewery. You can't go wrong here, laid back (well for the most part) it's well worth it to stop by.
Can feel like stepping into the the era of unification. Have a beer, play I spy with the bust of Lenin, feel into what the history of East Berlin means to this part of the city (Friedrichshain is former East Berlin.)
Great Australian style brunch, expect long waits but fear not! If the wait is too long, simply cross the street and enjoy an equally delicious brunch at Cafe Neumanns
Cocktails that'll blow your mind.
An iconic establishment, and Patrick's favorite. Anthony Bourdain loved it, and so do we. If you want German food, this is the real deal.
Many believe that the döner kebab was actually first created in Berlin by a Turkish guest worker named Kadir Nurman in 1972. He sold his first döner kebab in West Berlin across from Bahnhof Zoo. Either way, it is a staple. This is Ella's favorite Döner spot but rest assured, there is a plethora of quality döner to be enjoyed in the city. Hungry and see a döner spot? Never hesitate, grab it with an Ayran or cold beer and you are set (also a good late night food for anyone enjoying the night life.)
There are those who like schnitzel and those who do not. Patrick is one who does, and says this German/Austrian place is one of the best. Ella's note: it's a blast
Classic German food, enjoy a cold beer out of a Stein!
Our favorite wine shop, an incredible selection. Pick up a chilled bottle and two glasses, enjoy in Boxhagener Platz while people watching (goes perfectly with Kebap or some snacks from the späti)
Perfect park to hang out, people watch and enjoy! Pick up a beverage from one of the many spätis close by. Saturday visit the lovely food market and Sunday come and get trinkets from the famous flea market!
A place with food trucks, photobooths and Sunday fleamarkets. Well worth a visit. Skate Park, Brewery, Thai Restaurant and Bar are all part of the expansive stretch.
Visit the beautiful Volkspark Friedrichshain. Find little gardens tucked away, people rollerblading, running, grilling, find the hill and climb to the top, find the make shift work out equipment, find the dog park and be sure to have a look at the magical Märchenbrunnen! Close to Mitte, where you can find a selection of gorgeous cafes and retsaurants.
Just plain great coffee, where we get our coffee beans from!
Art installation inspired by the Berlin Wall, showing stretches where the wall was actually located in East Berlin. Walk across the famous Oberbaumbrücke and take in the view of the molecule man. Stop by Zola for a gorgeous neopolitan pizza and spritz! Or cross the bridge and find the hole in the wall Salumeria Lumari and enjoy sinfully delicious pasta.
A market hall. Beautiful kitchenware, excellent ice cream, lots of different food and beverage option. Visit as you stroll around Kreuzberg.
Get a chicken and the garlic and spicy sauce. Grab it to go and head into Görlitzer park, it was an old train station, see the old structure and enjoy chicken and people watching.
NOT TO BE MISSED! The large park that used to be an airport, where the Luftbrücke took place. Historical, incredible fun, the place we all look forward to when the summer comes around. Grab some snacks and picnic away, take your bike and cruise around, grab your running shoes and jog along the perimeter, the options are endless and it's always a blast.
Historical building turned gallery. Check out Louise Bourgeois: The Woven Child exhibition currently on display.
Fantastic contemporary art museum.
A classic. What more can I say.
One of Berlins many beautiful forests. Find the Jagdschloss, the lakes and the German Restaurants.
If you end up in West Berlin you must go here. Best truffle pasta, excellent atmosphere, a beautiful look at the other, calmer side of Berlin.
Head here to catch a lot of Berlin's history. Right by Tiergarten, where you can find Cafe am Neuen See for lunch. Catch the view of the Siegessäule. You can take a beautiful long walk from Brandenburg Gate through Tiergarten to Monkeybar. Enjoy a cocktail with a view of the city. Check out the historical KaDeWe and the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächneskirche. Dinner at Standard Serious Pizza, Klub Kitchen, Bejte-Ethiopia or Cafe Einstein Stammhaus.
An important and deeply moving museum. A walk from the Canal, where you can enjoy a lunch and Hallisches Haus. Berlins history is fraught, and it's important to remember all aspects of it.
A profound memorial, an important visit to make. After this you can head over to the Topography of Terror, see some of the original Berlin wall and learn about the changing landscape of Berlin through the wars and the GDR.
For clubs in Berlin, this one is the most famous, and hard to get into. If Sven shakes his head "not today" rest assured, it's happened to the best of us. Also nice for Sunday dancing after a mimosa brunch. If Berghain doesn't work out, About Blank is close by. During the day you can also catch art shows at Berghain.
Wine, pasta and great fun. Where we had our engagement party!
Wine bar with dangerously delicious pet-nat.
What we would call, a solid bar.
An ICONIC Berlin establishment. Right by the Spree.
Stroll along the Spree, check out the famous Admiralsbrücke, get a drink at Das Hotel Bar, Geist Im Glass, Mama Bar, grab coffee and pastries at Albatross, La Maison (Ella's favorite) head to Barretino, jaja or Spindler for aperativo, grab a bite at Gazzo, Il Casolare and many more. On Tuesdays and Fridays from 11-6:30, check out the vibrant Turkish Market with delicious food beautiful trinkets and much more.
Wildly famous currywurst right by one of the most famous kepab spots. Even if its not here, grab a currywurst at some point. It's Berlin, you got to.
The Brückenfahrt boat tour is incredibly beautiful, you will see the whole city and really grow to appreciate the architecture and feel of the different "Kiez's." This is Ella's favorite things to go with visitors,
Check out the old spy towers and hike around the beautiful Berlin forest. Historically fascinating and beautifully strange.
Even just to stroll around, not even to go into the museums is a joy here. Visit the Lustgarten, see the Berliner Dom, check out the Gendarmenmarkt, have a look at Checkpoint Charlie and see parts of the old wall. Find the Marx-Engels-Forum and see a HUGE sculpture of the two.
Ella's favorite restaurant. Reserve in advance!
Beautiful park, pick up beers from Mikeller Berlin and bring them, visit the Rosengarten, stop by Ocelot Books, and stroll through Mitte after your park visit.
Concept store with a beautiful selection of items and books. Voo Deli serves up lovely coffee and around the corner you can find Klinke, contemporary German cuisine. Stroll through Kreuzberg, pop into vintage and vinyl shops and if you want to take a walk, head to the original Burgermeister. A burger shop in an old toilet stall. Ella likes Meister Aller Klassen add cheese, and a cold Apfel Shorle with that.
Incredibly fun club with outdoor area.
It wouldn't be a Berlin visit without Kaffee und Kuchen.
Famous vegan donuts, great coffee!
Delicious Turkish restaurant that, for many, is the first place they go to eat when they return to Berlin. The kind of place you will miss when you are away. Really affordable and laid back.
Right near the beautiful Hasenheite Park, this place is perfect for a joyful dinner and great for larger groups. The mezze plates are all delicious and fun to share. Grill your own meat right at the table (you may have had this experience with Korean BBQ) and try Raki, the famous Turkish drink. If you decide to go with a larger group reserve in advance.
