How It All Began...

From Hinged to Hitched...

Living up to expectations as millennials (but let it be known that they are actually Elder-Millennials *see Illiza Schlezinger stand up) they met on a dating app called Hinge. Now anyone who knows Amy knows that she had tried dating apps/websites off/on for years with very limited success and was getting close to giving up, and anyone who knows Patrick knows that putting himself out there and talking to strangers isn't exactly his idea of a great time, but somehow they were both brave enough to create profiles and start talking. Amy messaged Patrick first, captivated by his perfect dimples and great smile, and Patrick, reeled in by the compliment about said dimples and intrigued by Amy's kind eyes and sweet smile, responded. The two messaged for a while leading up to their first date on February 9, 2019. If you ask Patrick about their first date, he will tell you that Amy asked A LOT of questions, if you ask Amy she will say she was so nervous she talked all through dinner. Their first date was filled with the normal first date conversation and awkward goodbye but they both left knowing they wanted to see each other again, and it was on this second date when they both knew it was something special. They originally planned their second date for Friday, February 15th, but an impending snowstorm threatened their travel plans, so Amy suggested they meet up on Thursday instead (in case you are like Amy and didn't realize this right away...that was Valentine's Day). Patrick agreed to the new day and then shortly after, Amy had a minor panic that she was going to scare him off having a second date on Valentine's Day, but true to his easy-going nature, Patrick was unphased. Date number two was at Dave and Busters where they played basketball connect four and various other games until they had enough tickets for Amy to take home a stuffed flamingo that she proudly displayed in her car. They also took photos in the photobooth and as a lover of photos this hooked Amy.

How They Got Engaged

Their Perfect Proposal

Amy has worked at the Kansas City Zoo in the Australasia section with various animals, including the orangutans, since 2013 and the zoo and the animals she cares for have a very special place in her heart. Patrick planned and executed the most perfect proposal where he asked Amy to marry him at the zoo in front of the orangutan exhibit so that friends and family could watch it live from home on the zoo's webcam. Amy just thought she was meeting Patrick and a few friends over her lunch break to spend some time with an out of town friend who was visiting. They met up just outside the orangutan exhibit and not too long after exchanging greetings the orangutans spotted Amy and made their way down to the window. Patrick took advantage of this opportunity and asked Amy if she wanted to take a photo together in front of the exhibit. Amy, never one to turn down a photo op, of course, agreed, and as she looked back over her shoulder to see where the orangutan, Kalijon, was so Amy would know where to stand, Patrick was getting down on one knee. When Amy turned back around she was so surprised and quite literally speechless. It was so special to be able to share this amazing moment with not only some great friends who were there in person to document the occasion, but so many loved ones across the country courtesy of Patrick's perfect plan. Not only was their proposal very special, but Amy's engagement ring is also extremely meaningful. The three stones in her ring were from a ring that Amy's grandmother wore and left to Amy when she passed away in 2019. Amy had a very special love for her grandmother and will always cherish what the ring represents and the wonderful loving marriage of her grandparents that it pays homage to.
