How We Met

It All Started With a Handshake...

Our love story and journey towards this sacred institution started in the most sacred of places--church. On this serendipitous day, I (Kevin) happened to be getting coffee in the church cafe, while watching the service on the big screen. I had been tempted to order breakfast at the church's small bistro, which would have forced me to turn my back to the doorway--in fact, I had even gotten in the line and gotten back out of it. Something was urging my spirit to forget breakfast and just get coffee instead. (Ha! The joke's on you, "Most Important Meal of the Day!") I'm so glad that I did, because after I went back to the coffee table, as I filled my cup and reached for the cream, I glanced into the hallway and happened to lock eyes with a tall, beautiful woman wearing an usher shirt. I smiled. She smiled the sweetest, kindest, most beautiful smile I'd ever seen.. She happened to be coming to the cafe to grab a cup of coffee too. We introduced ourselves. Little did I know at this moment that this was to be my future wife! But Patience fondly remembers the feeling that overtook her when I gently took her hands in mine as I greeted her. She refers to it, I believe, as an "electric handshake"--full of butterflies, rainbows, and all the feels. We made small talk about what we were doing that day, as well as our children (who, coincidentally, are less than a year apart in age, so were in the same Sunday School class). Noting that they would probably be playing together in Sunday School, we agreed to meet by the class after service to check on them. After service, we met by the Sunday School class to check on the kids. We chatted some more, eventually exchanging contact info before going our separate ways. I promised I'd call. After what seemed to be an agonizing eternity of a day for both of us, I called that night, and our conversation last for 5 HOURS! When we got off the phone at 2 am, I fell to my knees and prayed to God, thanking him for introducing me to my wife.
