How we met

Two days in October, that’s all it took. Visiting Chicago for the first time, John asked Andrew (one of his groomsman) for a beer recommendation for Chicago. The answer was Half Acre Brewery. But after a day of the Top 50 things to do, and see in Chicago in one day, curated by his mother, he took an uber to Half Acre in favor of a beer alone before dinner. He had an hour. Patience’s blind date was late. So she ordered a Deep Space the new seasonal Double IPA and looked around for someone to talk to because… It is Patience after all. And she chose to talk to this guy, alone, in the corner of the bar who had also just ordered a Deep Space. As Patience peppered this guy with questions about how great Deep Space was, and why he was here all the way from Houston, and how he had come to find her local brewery. She asked him what he did, and he replied, “I make donuts for a living and live with my parents.” John was thinking that this answer would either create a fun reaction and push her away to let him drink his beer in peace, or it would lead to a very amazing conversation. It was the latter. After some time, his answers didn’t quite add up and Patience asked why does a donut maker need to travel so much? At that point John told Patience that he was a professional baseball player. That meant nothing to Patience as she wondered how that was a “real job” and the conversation continued in hilarity. Finally, John’s hour was up and he had to leave. As he was leaving he asked Patience for her phone number and she said, “Why? You live in Houston and have the have the worst schedule I’ve ever heard.” And he replied “You never know” Patience’s date was terrible so on a whim she texted John for coffee the next day. Little did she know that John had also scouted coffee shops he wanted to go to, so he invited her to meet him in a coffee shop off of Wicker Park on a Saturday (an impossibility for parking) and the amazing conversations have never stopped.

For all the days along the way
