Patrick and Sarah Elizabeth met at a small youth lock-in in 2014. It would be later that summer where they would become good friends. Like most camp crushes, the two just remained friends...that was until the following summer. Patrick worked up the nerve to ask Sarah Elizabeth on date, despite the long distance (him being from Scottsboro and her from Alabaster). She thought about it long and hard, but thought he was worth the risk. After five happy years, the two are finally tying the knot! They look forward to what the Lord has to bring them and their future endeavors as a married couple.
One casual Saturday, Patrick told Sarah Elizabeth to get dressed up and they go on a date day. She, of course, obliged knowing that shopping may be involved. Patrick proceeded to take Sarah Elizabeth to Target. He challenged her to purchase the following items for one another: 1) their favorite snack, 2) their favorite drink, 3) something that reminds you of them, and 4) something to do together. The two took off to purchase the gifts for each other. After successfully checking out and sneaking the gifts to the car, Patrick suggested they go to a local park to swap gifts. They arrived at Joe Tucker Park and unloaded the gifts. One category at a time, they swapped gifts with Sarah Elizabeth going first. Sarah Elizabeth gave Patrick Doritos and root beer for his favorite snack and drink; he gave her chocolate and ginger ale. She gave him an Office figurine and their favorite Polar Ice Extra gum; he gave her Pillsbury sugar cookies and a 2020 snow globe. Last but not least, the final gift swap arrived. Patrick closed his eyes as Sarah Elizabeth placed a miniature air hockey in front of him. He loved it! She then closed her eyes as Patrick rustled in the bags for her gift. She opened her eyes and he was on one knee with a beautiful ring. We all know what this means and of course she said, “Really? Like Right Now? For real? Yes!”. The two were so excited, but Patrick had one final gift. It was a board game the two could actually play together; he said this was his backup plan. That’s the story of just a super simple date day that ended with a happy engagement.
