On September 24, 2021 at 11:03PM, Amanda receives a text from her cousin Nicole while she is out with her friends. The text reads, "Hi!! I have a single friend for you lol. He's a nice guy and his name is Doug." Meanwhile Doug was at Fatty's for Connor's birthday and saw Amanda's picture, thought she was pretty and figured why not. On October 6th, Doug & Amanda went on their first date at Corks & Taps in Bay Shore. Doug came over to Amanda's car and opened her door. The first thing Amanda noticed was Doug's cowboy boots and his height and Amanda thought check, check! They were suppose to have dinner and drinks, but they were both so nervous, that they never ate. They had a great time and even were the last to leave the restaurant. The two had a great time and were looking forward to getting together again. P.S. Big thanks to Nicole for drunkenly texting & setting us up! XO
The month of May was full of many happy memories. Amanda graduated with her Master's Degree, Doug and Amanda picked up Gauge to bring home and they got engaged. Doug, Amanda and Gauge spent MDW in Montauk. Doug was planning to propose in Montauk at sunset since sunsets at Shagwong are so special to the couple. Unfortunately Amanda did not pack enough dog food for their new puppy and that led to a whole other adventure. Doug & Amanda started to head back towards home, but stopped at Cedar Creek Campground and had Doug realized how beautiful the beach is there, he would have proposed then. However on May 26th, Doug asked Amanda to go watch the sunset at Democrat Point, a drive on beach that the couple visits and camps at often. Amanda didn't think any of Doug asking since it was their thing to go and watch the sunset. When the couple got to the beach, they hung out for a little before making their way down to the jetty to have the best seat for the sunset. Doug had Amanda carry Gauge as Doug carried the beverages. Once Amanda put Gauge on the ground, Doug immediately said he already has something in his mouth. Amanda quickly trying to get it out realized it looked like a note. As she opened it, Doug got down on one knee and asked the question. Amanda in pure tears of happiness said YES! The couple and Gauge celebrated! The two saw the most beautiful and special sunset that night. Demo beach will always hold a special place for Doug, Amanda & Gauge.
