Modern Day Love

In true millennial fashion, Alyssa and Drew met by "swiping right" on each other. Drew had moved to Wisconsin to complete an internship for his engineering degree, and was interested in meeting new people while he was there. As fate would have it, Alyssa and Drew began talking in October 2014. Over the next couple months the two would talk everyday, and eventually planned to meet on December 6th, 2014 at Kittner's Pub. Poor Drew only got to talk with Alyssa for about five minutes, before being brought to the pool table by some of her friends. Drew could have easily walked away, but chose to embrace Alyssa and her crazy group of friends. The rest of the night went off without a hitch, and the two quickly became inseparable. After Drew graduated in early 2015, his job search ultimately brought him back to his home state of Michigan. With Alyssa and Drew living eight hours apart, the two began a long distance relationship. In November 2016, Alyssa decided to follow her heart and made the move to be with Drew in Michigan. The rest is history!

The Setup

July 6, 2019

Every year Drew's extended family gets together for the week of Fourth of July in Ludington, MI. You could say its somewhat of a family reunion. Alyssa and her parents had been able to participate in this tradition over the previous few years, but this year Alyssa was stuck working most of the week. Even so, Alyssa planned on heading up after work on Friday to be with the families. While sitting around the fire on Friday night, the group made plans to take a walk out to the Ludington Breakwater Lighthouse on Saturday morning. This was also partly tradition, so Alyssa thought nothing of it. After breakfast the next day, the group got ready to head out. Drew's parents would have to leave for a prior engagement later in the day, so everyone wanted to make it out to the lighthouse before they left. Again, Alyssa thought nothing of this. On this day the water levels were elevated, and with the wind blowing the water was coming up over the pier. As the group approached the lighthouse, Drew's mom suggested that Alyssa and Drew take a picture in front of it (a score for Alyssa, since Drew hates taking pictures). After getting their picture taken, Drew focused Alyssa's attention across the lake by stating "do you see how high the water is over there?" When Alyssa turned back around, Drew was down on his knee and asked the million dollar question, "Will you marry me?" Alyssa's first reaction was to say "Are you f*cking serious?", and then she ultimately said "Yes!" through happy tears.
