Dubuque is more fun and entertaining that you might think.
Town of Galena
Galena, IL 61036
Galena is a cute little town just on the other side of the Mississippi River, in Illinois. We recommend visiting Galena River Wine & Cheese, Bread & Vine, Outside the Lines, and/or Grape Escape. We also really like walking on the trail that overlooks the river.
Dubuque Arboretum
3800 Arboretum Drive, Dubuque, IA 52001
We love the arboretum! It's 56 glorious acres of plants and trees and walkways and a koi pond. So many hostas!! Plus it's free to visit.
Eagle Point Park
2601 Shiras Avenue, Dubuque, IA 52001
This is a really cool park on top of the bluffs. There are some walking trails and some neat buildings. Our favorite thing to do at Eagle Point Park is to look out over the river and look for bald eagles. There are tons of them!
Mississippi Riverwalk
Mississippi Riverwalk, Dubuque, IA 52001
It's a walkway along the Mississippi River. It's nice.
Mississippi River Museum
350 East 3rd Street, Dubuque, IA 52001
The museum is moderately interesting for adults for maybe 60-90 minutes. There's are some touching pools where you can touch (molest?) various creatures, though, and I understand that children enjoy that.
Fenelon Place Elevator
491 West 4th Street, Dubuque, IA 52001
The world's shortest, steepest, scenic railway at 296 ft in length. What's not to love! You can see Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin in this bad boy.
Q Casino
Dubuque, IA 52001
We're not really casino people, but people like casinos and Dubuque has a couple of them, so there you have it.
