How We Met

Rocks, paper, scissors, shoot!

The story of how we met has two beginnings... We "met" at Play Fair, Bucknell's first night of orientation. Em beat Sam in a grade-wide game of rocks, paper, scissors, much to his dismay. And also... We were introduced again a few days later by Sam's roommate, and we were both certain that we were not going to date. Fast forward through a few months to Parents Weekend, and we were introducing each other to our families as our "friend". Funny how life works out like that, and boy is Emily glad she won that game!

Our Story

8 Years Later

After 4 years at Bucknell, hundreds of tuna melts and milkshakes, we traded in the farmland of central PA for the rolling hills of Oklahoma. We absolutely loved our years in Tulsa, where we met the best friends, and became a part of such a great community of educators and change makers. After Em's first month of teaching, we decided to adopt a Lucy puppy, and have been on an adventure ever since. Now, we are so happy to be settling back into life in the North East. We found our way to Philadelphia, and are having so much fun making our home in Fairmount. We are so excited to celebrate this next chapter of our story with all of you!

How He Asked

4.7.18

Her Version: In typical fashion, I threw a wrench in Sam's thoughtful proposal plan! Sam's parents were in town to "help us with the house renovations"... not unusual. We planned to have lunch with my parents... not unusual. Sam wanted to go for a walk to see the fireworks set up for a wedding at the Water Works near our house... also, not surprising! I squashed the walk idea (we had JUST taken Lucy for a walk)...! Anyways... we got ready for lunch without the walk. As the group walked to the car, Sam insisted that he drive, despite my go to excuse of "car sickness". This is the point in the story when I finally starting thinking about why I had my nails painted for the first time in months. **Think, tuxedo fart scene from Step Brothers**.... now, the nails thing is a little f-ed up! Sammy drove us the 2 minutes to the Water Works, where he started frantically looking around, but not for the fireworks. I couldn't stop smiling, and followed Sam into the gazebo, where we were talking about how lucky we are to have such an amazing partnership and life together. Suddenly Sammy got down on one knee, and we both started crying. We couldn't say much, but I know I said, "YES!". In all of the smiles, I missed that the Leeigh's had shown up behind us and saw the whole thing with Sam's parents! We took some pictures, and then made our way back to our apartment, where ALL OF OUR SIBLINGS were waiting to celebrate. We really are the luckiest.
