Question

Can I wear Indian clothing even if I am not Indian?

Answer

Yes! You are welcome to wear Indian clothing to any of our events! Let us know if you have any questions or need help understanding the appropriate attire (which will be described under each event). Please note that ordering items online can often take a few months. If an international online order will not reach you in time, many cities have local stores selling Indian clothing. Nordstrom and ASOS also stock a limited range of Indian options, and Etsy often has options as well. The ceremony is not in a temple so there are no modesty requirements. Primer on Indian Clothing ~Attire typically worn by men~ Kurta: A long shirt with pants Indo-western: A long or short shirt with pants, often with fusion elements Jodhpur or Bandhgala: A short jacket with a high neck with pants Sherwani: The most formal option, a long jacket with a high neck with pants ~Attire typically worn by women~ Salwaar Kameez: A long shirt with pants and a scarf Sharara: A long shirt with flowing or bell-bottom pants and a scarf Lehenga: A top with a skirt and a scarf Anarkali: A one-piece dress often with a scarf Saree: A long cloth that is draped over a top and skirt (this is often the most difficult for beginners to wear) Some websites you can peruse for Indian clothing are: https://www.panashindia.com/ https://www.manyavar.com/en-us https://www.indianweddingsaree.com/ (has many types of clothing contrary to the name) https://www.azafashions.com/ https://shopkynah.com/ https://www.kalkifashion.com/ https://www.utsavfashion.com/ https://www.perniaspopupshop.com/ (designer options) Based in North America (but sometimes more expensive): https://peacelily.ca/ https://www.holichicbymegha.com/ https://nazranaanj.com/ https://tiabhuva.com/ (just has sarees) Rental options: https://preserve.rent/ https://borrowthebazaar.com/
