Denver International Airport is about 35 minutes to downtown. If you prefer to use the A Line Train ($10.50 p/ticket - 41 minute ride) from the airport to downtown's Union Station and then either walk or take the free mall ride to your hotel. It is not necessary to rent a car. Denver is a very walkable city - and using a rideshare app such as Uber or Lyft is the preferred method to go longer distances around the city.
