Flight

Logan Airport

Logan is the closest airport! If you are driving from Logan or taking an Uber/Lyft, it takes 30 minutes to get to Salem with no traffic, but BEWARE of rush hour traffic that DOUBLES the commute (& probably price of ride share) Mon-Fri from 4-7pm! I urge you to try to avoid rush hour if possible.

Travel Note

Taking the Ferry to Salem

After you get to Logan, there are other options to get to Salem if you would like to take the Train or Ferry to Salem instead! How fun does taking a ferry sound? Taking the Ferry to Salem is a 3 easy step process: 1) Free shuttle from terminal to water taxi dock 2) Water taxi to the ferry at Long Wharf (10 min ride with a great view of Boston). 3) Ferry to downtown Salem. (50 min ride watching the coastline slide by) It's a beautiful ride and there is a bar on board. If you have a little bit of a wait for the ferry, you can leave your luggage with the ticket office at Long Wharf and explore the immediate area. Note the schedule though as the ferry only runs every couple hours and not late into the evening.

Train

Taking the Train to Salem

After you get to Logan, there are other options to get to Salem if you would like to take the Train or Ferry to Salem instead! To take the train, you will want to take the T to North Station to get the commuter train. To do so: At Logan take the shuttle to the Blue Line Blue Line inbound to the Orange Line (change at State St.) Take Orange Line to North Station (You could also get off at Govt. Center and take the Green Line to North Station) In North Station follow signs for commuter rail Take either the Rockport or Newburyport trains to Salem If you are taking the train to Boston from Philadelphia, you will need to take the T from South Station to North Station to get to the Commuter Rail and hop on the Rockport/Newbury Line. I have read that if you're able to get off at Back Bay (a stop before South Station?), it is easiest to take the Orange Line from Back Bay to North Station.
