How We Met

June 2, 2018

As the saying goes, you always find what you're looking for when you're not looking. Cara's friend and bridesmaid, Jessica, invited her to her sister Julie's birthday party that Saturday evening. Jessica and Julie's other sister, Sarah, and dear friend of Parker's, had also extended the invite to him. Cara agreed to meet up with the group later, since she was studying for her GRE to get into graduate school. When Cara finally arrived at Gilligan's, a local bar in Old Town Scottsdale, Sarah was at the entrance and greeted her, which is also when she introduced Cara to Parker. As Cara made her way over to Jessica and her husband Dave, they sat down and chatted for a few minutes catching up on what she had missed from earlier that evening. Parker sat down next to Cara, reintroduced himself, and asked if she was single. To which Cara replied, yes. However, Parker took it one step further and asked how single was she, on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being married and 10 being single. Cara replied with a "10". Parker then asked how "Cara Young" sounded. Cara, sarcastically, said, "let me guess, that's your last name." Parker confirmed, saying they should travel to Las Vegas, get married, have babies, the whole white picket fence, "how does that sound?" Cara replied, "sounds great." Parker asked when they should go, to which Cara, still thinking Parker was "pulling her leg" said, "how about next weekend?" Parker agreed. And the rest is history. Turns out Parker was more intuitive than Cara gave him credit for!

The Proposal

August 15, 2020

August 1, 2020 - After visiting with Parker's mom in San Pedro, California, Parker surprised Cara with a trip to a well-known jeweler in Beverly Hills, who Parker met through mutual friends. Unbeknownst to Cara, there were 2 pear-shaped stones that she was admiring, which just so happened to be the 2 that Parker was choosing between for her engagement ring. At the time, Parker was unsure about the timing of his proposal but, knew that the perfect opportunity would present itself. August 8, 2020 - Parker, on his way back from California to Arizona, decided that their camping trip to the Colorado mountains the following weekend was that perfect opportunity. He called the jeweler that day and asked if it would be possible to have the ring made and shipped to Arizona by Wednesday, the 12th, since they were planning to leave the next day. Miraculously, it arrived in time and Parker met with Cara's parents that afternoon to ask for her hand in marriage. August 15, 2020 - After waking up, Cara, Parker, and their 4 friends who were along for the trip, decided to hike from the campsite down to the water for a swim. Halfway along the hike, Parker stopped by a tree overlooking the beautiful landscape, and started unpacking his backpack. The first thing Cara saw was a vintage bottle of Krug champagne, which Cara knew Parker was saving for a special day. Confused, she asked why he brought it. Parker continued to unpack all of the items he had, giving each item to one of their friends and said that special day was today. He proposed, surprising all of their friends and family, and she said yes!
