Patrick asked Kelsey out for drinks, to which Kelsey said "I don't really drink, how about coffee?" Patrick said yes to coffee, but little did Kelsey know... he didn't drink coffee, he just wanted to go on a date with Kelsey. (green flag #1). Over the course of nearly 2 hours, they talked about travel and nature and family and music. The next morning while Kelsey was headed to Starbucks, she decided to listen to his favorite artist, Car Seat Headrest. Halfway to her coffee, Patrick texted her asking about her favorite album by her favorite artist, Noah Kahan, as HE wanted to listen to it on his neighborhood walk. (green flag #2). Kelsey has had a massive crush on Patrick from that moment on!
After Patrick came up with a plan to propose, Kelsey quickly put the pieces of the puzzle together. Patrick, being a smart man, had a backup plan. With their friends (Trevor & Hope), Patrick planned a double date to The Wonderland of Lights, a drive-through light festival with a small fair at the end. With promises of heated seats and a funnel cake, Kelsey was more than happy to go. After driving through the lights, they parked their car to walk around and find some treats. But first, Patrick requested a photo by the lit up palm trees. Kelsey immediately knew what was happening and began jumping up and down (which continued for about 3 hours AFTER he asked her to marry him). Patrick pulled the ring out of his shirt front pocket, got down on one knee and said those 4 little words, "Will you marry me?". With an immediate yes, a hug, a kiss, and nearly knocking him over, they were engaged! Fun Fact: Before heading to the lights, Kelsey did in fact try to put some candy in Patrick's front pocket and nearly blew the entire operation!
