We recommend flying into DCA. It is the closest airport to downtown DC and is connected to the Washington Metro (Blue and Yellow lines) for public transit access into DC. You can easily transfer to the Metro's Red line via Metro Center station in downtown DC.

Located about 26 miles west of D.C. in Northern Virginia, Dulles is farther from DC than Reagan, but still accessible to public transit via DC Metro's Silver Line (~1h 10m train ride into the city). You can easily transfer to Metro's Red Line at the Metro Center station downtown.
Flight
BWI is the farthest away from the city (~1 hr drive). There is a connecting shuttle to an Amtrak rail station which can take you to D.C.'s Union Station via the MARC regional commuter train, although train times may vary. Once you're at Union Station, you can either call a hail a cab/call a rideshare or use public transit via the Union Station metro station (Red Line).
Travel Note
If you want to explore the District like a local, we recommend the Washington Metro! Where Can It Take You? Pretty much everywhere! The Metro features six color-coded lines that connect downtown D.C. with Maryland and Virginia. It links directly to Reagan National Airport (DCA) via the Blue and Yellow lines, and Dulles International Airport (IAD) via the Silver line. Fares & How to Pay D.C. uses distance-based pricing meaning your fare depends on how far you ride and what time of day it is. One-way train rides generally range from $2.25 to $3.00 on weekdays, while weekend rides are a flat $2.25 to $2.50 per trip. You can tap a credit/debit card or use your Apple/Google Pay by tapping your phone wallet at the gate. If you prefer a physical card, you can buy a SmartTrip card at any metro stop and load money onto it.
