Our Story
First encounter
2013
Both born and raised in Lāʻie, Pare and Tuvili didn’t really know each other growing up due to their four-year age difference. It wasn’t until 2013 that they were officially introduced, thanks to Tuvili’s friendship with Pare’s sister, Brieana. From there, a genuine friendship began to grow—continuing through Pare’s mission and Tuvili’s move from Hawaiʻi to Utah. When Pare returned, they reconnected, and their friendship picked up right where it left off. Even with Tuvili still living in Utah, they talked on the phone for hours at a time each day. The more they spoke and the more time they shared, the more their appreciation for each other deepened.
It's official
2018
After five years of being best friends, they finally realized the love had been there all along. What started with inside jokes and late-night talks turned into something real. Now, they’ve made it official—and everyone who knows them is just thinking, “It’s about time!” The journey hasn't always been easy, but with patience, love, and sacrifice, they learned to grow together through the highs and the lows. They built trust, strengthened their bond, and discovered the beauty of choosing each other every day. They really lived by the saying, "choose your love, and love your choice".
The Ultimatum
2019
Their relationship progressed but, they both knew that in order to work towards marriage long distance dating couldn't continue. So, they decided to rock paper scissors to see who was making the move...just kidding. Pare told Tuvili that she was never leaving Hawaii and left him to make the decision to move back to Hawaii and pursue their relationship. Tuvili decided to make the move and at the end of 2019 he moved to I-street, just a couple houses down the road from Pare. This was one of the best decisions made for their progress. They discovered a new dynamic in their relationship and spent real quality time, navigating life side by side.
Finally engaged!
2023
After 10 long (lol) years, Tuvili planned the most beautiful engagement ceremony at the Polynesian Cultural Center and proposed to Pare after asking her dad for permission. The proposal began in the village of Aotearoa with a ceremonial gift exchange as both their Fijian and Maori cultures were shared and embraced. Pare then toured the lagoon on a canoe with different displays Tuvili had set up symbolizing their love story over the years. The canoe ride ended in the Fiji village where Tuvili knelt on one knee and proposed, as both were surrounded by those they loved most. The engagement ring Tuvili thoughtfully chose was a beautiful green jewel that symbolizes the birth of their sweet nephew, Raewyn-Metuakore, who had recently passed away. The ring has been a symbolic reminder of how endearing Raewyn is to them both.
Tying the knot
2025
After 12 years of friendship, growth, and love, they are officially sealing the deal for all time and eternity in the Laie Hawaii temple. Throughout their years of knowing each other, they have learned to put God first, trust in Him, and rely on His timing.
