We’ve talked with our priest and made the rough decision to not have the full-sized wedding, due to the countless uncertainties we’re facing with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Please pray for us and send us strength as I sob over our guest list again to cut it down to just immediate family, wedding party & family, and those who are helping us set up the event. For the wedding itself, if you are attending in person, please bring a mask. We will be sending out information cards to the rest of those previously invited who we would still love to join us virtually. We will have a big anniversary reception next year (July 31, 2021), and we can’t wait to celebrate with all of you when the world is, hopefully, safer and healthier. Thank you for loving us so much.
Elaine and Luther met on the Eve of Elaine's 34th Birthday at Artmosphere in Lafayette, LA, during Tuesday Night's Janky Karaoke. After weeks of agonizing about what to do for her birthday party, Elaine's sister, Laura, suggested Karaoke, and the event was set! Elaine chose to wear a fancy black lace and beaded dress she'd gotten from a clothing swap. Before leaving her house for the evening, she said, "If this doesn't get me at least ONE drink, this dress is broken." Luther, a local legend and staple of the Lafayette Karaoke Community, usually only went out to Janky Karaoke every other week. Despite having been out the week before, he was restless that night and decided to head out again, breaking his usual pattern. When Karaoke started, Elaine made a joke to Monique that any singers with a good singing voice were getting put on "The List." Luther, breaking another tradition, decided not to sing his usual "Rocket Man" and instead chose another Elton John favorite, "Tiny Dancer." The Birthday Party froze in their tracks when they heard "Tiny Dancer Guy" start to sing, and TDG went on "The List." Luther had also noticed "Birthday Girl," and had been trying to work up the nerve to talk to her all evening. When he heard someone else remark to his friend that he might buy Birthday Girl a drink, he finally sprang into action and made his move. Just in time, too, because Elaine was about to leave, mentally reprimanding her broken dress. He bought her a Jameson, neat. She offered him the last birthday party cupcake. Lauren threateningly asked what his intentions were, as one does. Luther answered correctly. Their first date was at Wurst Biergarten on June 20th, the following Tuesday, despite a Tropical Storm blowing into town. And now they're getting married. :)
