Puerto Rico in May is warm, sunny, and a little tropical—highs in the upper 80s with occasional afternoon showers. Pack light, breathable clothes and you’ll be ready to enjoy the sun, rainforest, and beaches!
No passport or visa is needed for U.S. citizens traveling. If you’re traveling from another country, please check your country’s entry requirements for the U.S. Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, so domestic travel rules apply. Bring a valid government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, state ID) for airport security.
When departing Puerto Rico, all travelers are required to go through a quick USDA agriculture screening at the airport before security. Bags are scanned to help prevent certain plants, fruits, and agricultural products from entering the mainland U.S. Please allow a little extra time at the airport for this process. In general, packaged goods and souvenirs are fine to bring home, but some fresh fruits, plants, and agricultural items may be restricted.
