Marc and Paola met as freshmen at Georgetown University. They had two classes together that first semester and met on the second day of classes and quickly became friends. On Election Night 2008, Marc and Paola were at a college election watch when results came in announcing Barack Obama as the 44th President. They decided to walk to M st and in that walk, they held hands. After that night, they started to see one another but they did not officially become a couple until November 30th after Thanksgiving break. After graduating from Georgetown, Paola ended up in Houston, TX teaching Pre-K and eventually Marc ended up in Boulder, CO. After a few years doing long distance, Paola moved to Colorado. In 2013, They found their dog Sadie and bought a house near Denver.

Marc and Paola decided to go camping in Telluride for the 4th of July weekend. On the drive back from the trip, they stopped on top of Independence Pass outside of Aspen, CO. Marc asked Paola if she had enjoyed their adventure together. She said yes, then Marc asked if she wanted to start another adventure together while giving her a beautiful sapphire engagement ring ... she said YES!
