Safety in El Salvador has been a huge player in deterring most travelers. Thankfully, El Salvador has undergone major changes over the past few years with a significant reduction in gang activity and crime. Recently the U.S. Department of State upgraded the Central American nation from Level 2 travel advisory, which advises travelers to exercise increased caution, to Level 1, its safest rating. In short, El Salvador is just as safe as any other country in the region.
