If you are looking for a nice nature walk, this vast city park is a must visit. It will take you 2-3 hours to walk the entire trail. Inside, you will find a lake, a Japanese garden, a nice cafe/restaurant, horse rides, ducks and friendly squirrels. Distance in car from Hotel Riu: 12-15 minutes.
This outdoor shopping mall is probably the nicest in all of Latin America, rivaling any mall in the U.S. There are a lot of great restaurants to choose from on Puerta de Hierro Boulevard or inside the Landmark building. Large retail stores include Liverpool and El Palacio de Hierro. The Shopping Center is a 12-15 minute drive from Hotel Riu.
This shopping mall is one of the newest outdoor malls in Guadalajara and is only a 7-10 minute drive from Hotel Riu. There are many shops and restaurants, however, unlike Andares Shopping Center, there are no major retail stores.
The historic center of Guadalajara has much charm to offer including the Guadalajara Cathedral (which should be your starting point), Plaza de Armas, Rotonda de las y los Jalicienses Ilustres, etc. We recommend that you walk the area behind the Cathedral which has a series of plazas with corner cafes. Next to the Cathedral, you will find a double decker bus stop (Tapatio Tour) that will take you around key points in the city. The Historic Center is a 15-25 minute drive from Hotel Riu. You can find tours of the city on www.viator.com and www.freetour.com.
