Our story began in June 2016 on a wing deployment to Guam. One of the first things we did together was go scuba diving—which may not have been the most traditional “first hangout,” but at least we knew right away that we could handle adventures (and questionable rental wetsuits) together. When we got home, we went on our official first date on July 10, 2016, and from that day forward, things just clicked. By January 2018, we had moved in together, proving that not only did we like each other underwater, but we could also survive the great debate of “what’s for dinner” on land. Through the years, deployments have been a big part of our story. Yvonne spent six months in Africa, and Dave had trips to Germany, Guam, and Iceland. It wasn’t always easy, but time apart reminded us how lucky we were to have each other—and made homecomings that much sweeter. In August 2024, we bought our camp in Stacyville, Maine. It’s quickly become our happy place: summers and winters spent riding four-wheelers and snowmobiles, and learning just how much gear two people can actually fit into one camp. That November, during Dave’s final Air Force deployment, we decided it was time to grow our family. Enter Rey: our German Shorthaired Pointer and Beagle mix who instantly became the real boss of the house. She’s the light of our lives, our adventure buddy, and the one who truly runs the show. Then, on September 1, 2025—over nine years after our first date and on Yvonne’s dad’s birthday—Dave got down on one knee at our camp. After a weekend of riding and relaxing, with the sun setting over Mount Katahdin, he asked the big question in front of the place that means so much to us. (And yes, Rey was there to supervise.) From scuba tanks to snowmobiles, deployments to puppy chaos, and now a proposal at sunset—we’ve built a life full of laughter, love, and adventure. We can’t wait to see what the future holds as we start this next chapter as husband and wife.
