Just make sure you have your passport & negative COVID test! Be sure to review the COVID related pre-travel requirements so you understand what documents and tests you will have to display. Check out their official website here: https://www.visitbarbados.org/covid-19-travel-guidelines-2022.
While Barbados has its own currency, the Bajan dollar, US dollars are also accepted in the country and credit cards are widely accepted! Also, $1 USD = $2 BBD, which makes the island rather affordable!
Paisley has arranged shuttles for everyone arriving on Thursday, so connect with her for details! Otherwise, taxis are readily available at the airport, and there should be a sign by departures letting you know the approximate cost to expect. For your return flight, the hotels should be able to assist you in pre-arranging a taxi! It is about 40 minutes from the airport to the hotels.
We will be arriving on Tuesday the 24th and staying on the West Coast. Then, we move to Eco Lodge on Thursday, and will be there until Monday the 30th. We leave the island on Saturday, June 4th!
Yes! Barbados is super safe. The locals (Bajans) are all incredibly friendly and hospitable (and lucky to live there... jealous...) with English being their native languagel! Not that we have any avid hunters attending, but be sure to leave your camouflage at home, as wearing the print on the island is disrespectful and illegal.
Some local eateries include: Sea View Bar, Dina's Bar & Cafe, Zaccios Restaurant, and Uncle Joe's Bar & Grill. The hotel staff should be able to assist you in calling these eateries to ensure they are open when you want to go. Thursday: Any of the above options should be open for dinner. You're invited to join us at Sea View Bar from 6:30-8:30 where we will be posted up for Welcome Drinks, and we will likely be eating there as well! Friday: If you'd like breakfast before the catamaran, a la carte options will be available at the Atlantis Hotel beginning at 8am (just be ready from the 9:15am bus departure)! Otherwise, lunch will be provided on the boat, and a dinner buffet will also be provided at the Atlantis Hotel at 5:45pm. Saturday: The above eateries should be open throughout the day. Additionally, a la carte options will be available at the Atlantis Hotel. Of course, food will be served at the wedding! Sunday: A la carte brunch (which is supposed to be DELICIOUS) will be available at Eco Lodge beginning at 9:00am. Otherwise, the above eateries should be open, and Atlantis Hotel will have a lunch buffet available beginning at 12pm at $80 per person. A la carte lunch will not be available at the Atlantis.
We ask that you PLEASE keep your phones away throughout the entire ceremony (you won’t have service anyway!). Our photographer is amazing, and we don’t want the memories to be spoiled by a bunch of phones in the way. We promise to share all the professional photos with you!
We recommend wearing block heels (nothing pointy), so you don't sink into the grass areas! Also, there are some steps at the venue that have a bit of an uneven surface, so just make sure you're comfortable in your shoes!
We’re going for a semi-formal vibe, please no shorts (unless you've got a super posh suited short)! Slacks/khakis/chinos, polos, and long/short sleeve button ups for the guys and for the girls, nice sundresses, jumpsuits, etc. Guys, you don't need to wear a sports coat or suit jacket, but you of course are welcome to! Ladies, it is the windy side of the island, so keep that in mind when choosing your dress length.
Currently, the US requires a negative COVID test taken no more than one day prior to your flight. You can look at the CDC's website for any updated information. For those that are leaving the island on Sunday, we have scheduled on-site testing at Atlantis on Saturday morning. It is cash only at $90 BDS ($45 USD) per person. If you are leaving on Monday, we will take a trip to the closest testing center.
Aside from the obvious, don't forget sunscreen! It will be less expensive to bring it in with you than to buy it on the island. Also, bring a few face masks as they may be required in a taxi or loading onto the catamaran, depending on what the current restrictions are.
